I came across this quote recently by French poet Marcel Proust, I’ve always been a lover of quotes, through good and bad times I have often found that they speak the very words I have in my own mind. Words have always been a part of me, ever since I was a young child when I would write my own stories and be totally absorbed in reading those written by others. Perhaps that’s why I find them so meaningful. This quote spoke to me because it is true that when someone, a friend, colleague or family member does something, no matter how small that brings a smile to your face it evokes such positive feelings and you do feel it deep down inside. It doesn’t cost a thing and is so powerful, we all have this ability and it’s priceless.
I often find myself struggling to stay positive while living in remission from acute Leukaemia. Since my diagnosis I have learnt a lot about people; how there are many different types, how some really are angels walking this earth, some always have their own agenda and never look outside of that and some you will never understand.
I have always admired people who, even though they have their own challenges in life, still reach out to others in need. I came across the quote below a long time ago, it sums up some of the wonderful, selfless people I have met over the past three years.
I am glad to say that I have been on the receiving end of many acts of kindness and these I often share with others to help them see the positives of human nature when they are struggling.
There is nothing more rewarding than reaching out and helping another, using your own experience to show them that they will get through the hard times. I have suffered some tough times but even then the kindness of others made me smile.
How about you? Have you been on the receiving end of a small, random act of kindness that restored you? Please leave it in the comments below because I would love to hear about it.
